Mid-November 2015. A spate of terrorist attacks shock the world.
Countries hit include Lebanon, Kenya, Mali, Cameroon, Egypt and France.
In response to the tragic attacks, Facebook added a photo filter so users can easily show their support for...France.
Just France.
This selective solidarity caused distress to the friends and relatives of the nations Facebook overlooked.
Tens of thousands of the world's grieving citizens took to social media, wanting to know why there was a Facebook Filter for Paris, but not for their loved ones.
So a reluctant hero stepped forward and offered to create the forgotten Flag Filters, by hand.
Within 24 hours, publications like Mashable, Digital Trends, Huffington Post and Wired were interviewing him.
He took a week off work, working 18 hour days, to get through the thousands of people who wanted a flag filter to show solidarity with everyone struck by terrorism.
In the end, Facebook reached out to him, thanking him for his service. Most importantly, they evolved their processes for global sorrow so that every nation is now cared for.
